Latest - Medway Urban Parks Forum
Tree planting celebration

In the wake of the stormy winds earlier this month, when many fine trees in Medway were lost, a new one is to be planted to celebrate the Medway Urban Parks and Green Spaces Forum. The tree will be planted in Cozenton Park, Bloor’s Lane, Rainham on Tuesday 6th February by the Mayor of Medway Cllr Angela Prodger and the Chairman of the Medway Urban Parks and Green Space Forum, Mark Agate.

Next meeting

The date for the next Medway Urban Parks and Green Spaces meeting will shortly be announced. Around 30 people attended the Inaugural Meeting of the Medway Urban Parks and Green Spaces Forum back in October, including several new faces. Plenty of volunteers put themselves forward for a position, and a management committee was quickly voted in.
The Mayor of Medway, Councillor Angela Prodger, gave a very uplifting speech about the importance of protecting our sacred green spaces and the need for community involvement.
Karen Partridge, Groundwork Kent & Medway's Community Projects Officer said, “The turn out was very impressive and everyone was extremely supportive of what the forum is setting out to achieve. Now is the time the forum can really get stuck into work by increasing awareness of Medway’s green spaces and supporting both new and existing Friends groups.”

Inaugural meeting - Come and share your views

The Inaugural Meeting of the Medway Urban Parks and Green Spaces Forum is fast approaching. All are welcome at the meeting and we encouraged and welcome new faces, what ever your interest may be.
The meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday 11th October at the Groundwork Kent & Medway offices. There is parking available in the car park behind the building on Green Street.
The Mayor of Medway, Councillor Angela Prodger will be in attendance and will be saying a few words about the significance and achievements of the forum. The forum will also adopt a Constitution and appoint Officers.

Display stand - Spreading the word

Our display stand attracted lots of interest at the Kent County Show and Cozenton Park Garden Festival earlier this year and can now be seen at various civic locations around the Medway Towns. Currently at the Civic Centre in Strood, leaflets and other information are available. Why not pop down and have a look?

Launch

The launch of the Medway Urban Parks and Green Spaces Forum will be taking place over two up-and-coming weekends, 13th/14th and 20th/21st May 2006 at the Medway Garden Festival, Cozenton Park, Bloors Lane, Rainham, from 10am-5pm.
The Medway Urban Parks and Green Spaces Forum has been set up in partnership between Groundwork Kent & Medway and Medway Council. It was felt that this umbrella group was needed to represent smaller groups and work to protect our ever threatened green spaces. Existing Medway forums including the Countryside Forum and Waste Forum have proved very successful and dynamic in bringing about change and implementing projects and improvements both in conjunction with the council and in their own right.
The group has been meeting since November and is well on the way to becoming fully constituted. The forum has been triumphant in attracting a wide range of members, all with the common goal of protecting and improving Medway’s green spaces. Members currently include representatives from local friends of groups, the Urban Park Ranger service, Fort Amherst, the Medway Town Sports Council, local Councillors and the Open Spaces Society.
Representatives from the forum will be on hand at the launch event to give out information, they are also looking to gain interest from new members, so please come along and have a chat about your local area. If you can’t make the first weekend please come along to the second.
