Case Study - Urban Parks Forum
Medway Urban Parks and Green Spaces Forum

The Medway Parks and Green Spaces Forum was created with the aim of encouraging the formation of Friends Groups, for not only all of the major 42 urban locations in Medway but also others where there may be concerns to local residents, particularly in light of the pressure on land to accommodate the new homes required by the Thames Gateway
The Forum is a democratically-run community liaison group to;
- Encourage awareness of Medway's urban parks and green spaces
- Initiate and support action to improve these facilities and ensure the greatest possible access to them
- Raise awareness of any threats to Medway's urban parks and green spaces
- Promote Medway's urban parks and green spaces as a setting for Medway's urban renaissance
- Assist in raising standards in the quality and regeneration of these areas (ie sports and play facilities) by helping to secure funding
- Promote the formation of Friends of groups
The Medway Urban Parks and Green Spaces Forum is active in taking up threats to local amenities such as Medway City Estates Lake and Horsted Valley, as well as being consulted by existing and prospective Friends Groups for advice and suggestions.
