Groundwork Kent & Medway recognises the importance of teaching children about their environment and how they can help improve and protect it. Our Education Team plays an important role in spreading the message of sustainable development through working with schools across the area. Groundwork’s education programmes are designed to link with the National Curriculum by providing practical activities that encourage young people to act responsibly towards their environment, valuing it for themselves and for future generations. We also lead family holiday activities at locations such as Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park www.gunpowderworks.co.uk.
Our cross-curricula workshops add value to the school syllabus, providing young people with the knowledge and experiences to make wiser environmental choices. We can work with all key stages; adapting activities to suit the school’s needs and can also offer training workshops to support teachers on a variety of environmental and sustainable issues. Our work supports schemes such as ‘Eco-Schools’, ‘Healthy Schools’ and the ‘Sustainable Schools’ Initiative.
Groundwork can deliver a wide range of educational services including
- Workshop programmes
- Educational visits
- Assemblies
- One-off workshops ie. on water saving, waste & recycling, composting, setting up a wormery
- School Grounds work
- Outdoor environmental activities ie. minibeasting & pond dipping
- Sustainable & eco-school support
- Specific projects designed around a school’s needs
