Groundwork’s Conservation team works to conserve and manage the important ecological areas of Kent and Medway, in partnership with key stakeholders including local councils, conservation bodies and the local community. The team provides a valuable ecological input to Groundwork projects, offering the following areas of expertise;
- Production of site Conservation Management Plans
- Ecological surveys and monitoring
- Habitat/species management advice
- Supervision of volunteer groups
- Water vole surveys and mitigation techniques
- Open space surveying
- Geographic Information Systems Mapping (GIS)
- Environmental education and awareness raising through delivery of guided walks and other activities
Groundwork is building a strong reputation in the conservation field and has the support of key organisations including the Environment Agency, English Nature, Dartford Borough Council and GlaxoSmithKline.
The Conservation Team recognises the importance of partnership working and is involved with a number of Steering/Working/Friends Groups including Managing the Marshes, Friends of Dartford Heath and the Darenth Country Park Advisory Committee to ensure the long-term, sustainable management of these important ecological areas.
