Green Doctor
If higher water, gas, electricity or oil bills are getting to be a problem for householders, Groundwork’s team of Green Doctors can prescribe a cure.
Offering home visits and advice on using energy, explaining how to access grant support on other environmental issues such as recycling, composting and water use, Green Doctors are showing people in target areas around the country how to make their homes more environmentally friendly and cheaper to run.
Green Doctor ‘remedies’ are aimed at reducing fuel poverty in the most vulnerable families. Their service can reach out to the elderly, the disabled and those in low income family households via home visits, whilst Green Doctor workshops are available for groups of tenants and residents, with information packs setting out a range of technical and non-technical measures.
In some areas partnerships are also being developed which mean that Groundwork’s team undertakes large scale contracts to audit groups of houses, or works with housing association residents across an entire region.
Green Doctors-making life more comfortable for residents and more sustainable for us all.
*Lower Tenant utility bills
*Higher environmental awareness
*Increased uptake of improvement grants
*Action to combat climate change
*Reducing carbon emissions.

Groundwork Kent & Medway, working with Greening the Gateway Kent & Medway, is creating Team Green employment opportunities for long term unemployed people to improve the environment in North Kent.
Over the next 18-24 months Groundwork plans to employ 70 Team Green Trainees on six month contracts, working in teams of 10, supervised by experienced Groundwork staff. The first team should be operational end November 2009, based in Gillingham.
We are now seeking work sites for this team around North Kent. Work should benefit the wider community and should be “additional” i.e. unlikely to take place without Team Green and not in competition with existing contracts.
Most programme costs are covered by the Department for Work and Pensions’ Future Jobs Fund, but we may need to make a small charge to cover full costs. Included in this would be all labour and supervision costs, supply of basic hand tools and transport. Materials such as plants and skips would be additional.
Please do not see this potential cost as a barrier to making an enquiry – at this stage we are more interested in finding out the scope of work available for Team Green.
